Different size wheel hubcaps??!
Hi, I just purchased some NOS Chrome wheel trims. They are the ones with the M in the middle so i thought they would fit my 1970 Traveller! But they dont!
Were there different sizes through the years?

Re: Different size wheel hubcaps??!
The Series MM hubcaps both with and without the M were smaller than the M1000 hubcaps

Re: Different size wheel hubcaps??!
Either offer them on this site or put them on Ebay. The ones you want don't have the M on. Can I suggest you invest in the stainless steel ones - no chrome cleaning - they wash in soapy water and don't rust! We've had them for about 7 years and they still look as new.

Yes they do. The hub caps without the M are for LCVs

Re: Different size wheel hubcaps??!
You are right Mike I do need them ones with the M on. I guess I'll have to put these up for sale then! Also Lou, you recommend the stainless Steel ones. How do they compare shine wise to the chrome ones?

Re: Different size wheel hubcaps??!
Initially the s/steel hubcaps are not quite as shiny but they do not rust like the chrome ones so in the long term they are shinier

If you work on the stainless ones - it should be possible to bring the 'shine' up nicely. They will certainly outlast the chrome ones by a factor of about 100!

Re: Different size wheel hubcaps??!
Sorry for earlier post - should have read "the ones you need have the M on"! Shine - yes they shine (on convertible in post picture) Just a good buff with a soft cloth after cleaning. The car has been outside all this last winter and the hubcaps are as good as new I've had them 7 years. They were on my traveller before I changed the wheels for alloys.

Re: Different size wheel hubcaps??!
I think there's 4 types of Minor hubcaps:
Early MM ones - small dia with no 'M'
Later MM and early Series 2 (with MM type axle and hubs) ones - small dia with 'M'
Series 2 '54 ish onwards - large dia with 'M'
Late LCV vans and pickups - large dia without 'M' (these were introduced to simplify the production line when both austin and Morris badged commercials were being produced)
To add to any potential confusion, Morris 1100/1300 hubcaps are also round, shiny and have 'M's in the middle. And don't fit Minors! The rounded edges are rather more crisp on these so they do look a bit different.
For a daily driver the stainless ones do make more sense.

One more type of hub cap.
Series MM plain, painted. Fitted in 1951 during a chrome shortage.
