sun visor rod

Post by MissMarple »

Hi

Both my interior sun visor rods (plastic ) have become brittle and have broken off at the ends so much so that I can't use them now. Is there an easy way to replace them or will I have to buy a new pair? Seems a shame as the rest of them are in good condition.

Any ideas would be great

mine broke, i managed to pull out the stud at turn it around (they're symmetrical) i recon you could find a bit of wooden dowell the right size and glue it in. thats what i was going to do until i realised i could turn the plastic round.

if u cant pull it out, pull the rod out the other end and push a stick down it!

Newton Commercial can supply replacement parts. They're not normally listed, but give them a call and they're very helpful.

Do Newton Commercial do the rods? I've managed to pull out the metal parts but don't have anything long enough at the mo to push the remaining plastic out.I will persevere but its harder work than I thought it would be!

Newton's make (assemble) the entire visor so they should be able to supply all parts. To remove the broken plastic, drill a small hole in the centre (end on) of the plastic, screw in a small self tapping screw (small because you don't want to expand the plastic, making it grip the metal frame any more tightly!) and then use mole grips on the screw to pull the plastic out.

Read through this as it might save you some money-new sunvisors are expensive.

I've managed to get the plastic bits out with WD40 and a wire coat hanger!! I think I have fixed them but still need to refit them to the car.

Mike thanks for the offer. I'll definitely take you up on that if they don't go back ok if thats alright.
