Needle Suggestion...

Post by d_harris »

Having now put a skimmed, and gasflowed 295 with huge valves onto agatha (1098 and otherwise standard) any suggestions for carb needle? I will stick a HS4 on later to get a bit more poke but for the moment I want to stick with the standard carb but get the best needle possible in there...

An H6 needle was the "rich" needle option for the standard 1098 HS2 carb.

h6 as in carb, or as in needle number?

There was an H6 carb. Fitted to the Aston Martin DB2/4, Austin Healey 100, Rolls Royce 4.5ltr, Daimler 4ltr etc

It's really not possible to fit 'huge' valves in a 295 - so I'm a bit puzzled there. That's why the 940 head is SO much better. And as the standard carb and manifold are very much the power limiting factors on a standard 1098 engine - you really won't see any significant performance improvement....... Just stick with the needle you have - set it up for idling - then do a plug check after a good run.
