Parcel Tray Fitting

Hi,

Can any Minor experts help? I have recently bought a new parcel tray and the crash bar to fit into my 1960 948 but i am finding it difficult to establish exactly how the crash bar fits.

The crash bar i have is an angle iron affair with small end plates which each have a single hole in. It looked an easy job to use this hole to simply fix the bar to side of footwell/A frame. The end plates, however, are angled out slightly and therefore the crash bar seems to only fit one way (to keep end plate flat to side of footwell) but when fitted this way it hits the steering column.

Can anyone give me some guidance as to how this crash bar should be fitted at the sides and what way round the angle iron should face - i.e. length with tray holes in it to the top and plain length of bar towards the back of the car, or holes to the bottom and plain length to the front of the car??

I have tried to do a search and check in parts catalogues but been unable to find any clear answer.

Gary,
Look at the photo below. The crash pad should have a large clearance to the steering column-somethig wrong somewhere.
You can see it better in the second photo. The third photo shows where the bar is fitted. Hope it helps.
