Ital Servo and pedal box.
Has anyone fitted the Marina/Ital servo brake system to their car. I am about to start the job using own 106 strengthening plate as advised by Owen Burton. It does seem a little daunting when you consider all the other bits that have to done first.Removing the heater assembly and radically altering the pipe inlets seems the hardest task.Any advice anyone has will be deeply appreciated.Regards Paul.
Re: Ital Servo and pedal box.
It seems a ridiclously extreme modification! Does the end result justify the work ? I don't find anything wrong with the existing master cylinder - and certainly no need for a servo.

to answer the question.. the worst part i found was modifying the pedals, always a bit of trial and error.
you do not need to remove the heater, simply remove the inlet and outlet pipes, whilst you are doing the mod or they will get in the way with the cutting and welding you are doing.

I suppose it all depends on driving techniques. People seem, these days, to accelerate hard and brake hard, a waste of valuable fuel in my opinion. Anyway I haven't found the drum brakes of a standard Morris Minor wanting. If you have a go-faster engine fitted it is probably a different matter.

Paul,
What are you expecting to gain from the use of the Ital pedal box? It seems an awful lot of work to end up with a different brake and clutch pedal that end up operating exactly the same brakes and clutch as before!!
Fitting a servo is very straightforward, apart from having to re-route the pipe to the rear brakes, and gives a more re-assuring feel to the brakes - but as Roy often says, does not improve the braking performance!

Re: Ital Servo and pedal box.
it is not that much work, i fitted the pedal box as it has the hydraulic clutch master as well as the servo , when i did it last time i got a working brake and clutch master of a scrap marina.. failed mot on rust from the looks of things.. and it cost me a fiver a lot less than buying a independent servo. I also think that the position up on the firewall means that the engine bay is still nice and clear.

Re: Ital Servo and pedal box.
Thanks for advice and comments,I do accept what you are all saying about standard brakes being sufficient with a basic engine. The main reason I am fitting the servo is that it is part of a complete automatic transplant,I recently lost a leg and can no longer drive a manual car so I looked at ways of fitting a hand clutch and failed. However my luck changed when I found a W reg Ital 1300 A+auto with only 28000 on the clock,it was still taxed and tested so I was able to put it through its paces. It passed with flying colours and I did over a 1000 miles in it.I am keeping the engine and box together to minimise problems.I should then have three things to sort, propshaft, gearbox mount and exhaust, but I will get to them once the rest is done,If I start pulling my hair out I will be asking for advice again. Thanks again,Paul.

Oh dear - well I can see why you would maybe want a servo! But it really would be much easier to simply use a remote servo which can be plumbed in in a couple of hours. The work you suggest would take me a few days!

Thanks for all your comments and views,I have now finished my conversion, the final result was staggering.Maybe it has lost some of the feel and patina of an old classic, but it stops on a sixpence and has spritely accelleration. You get a real feel of confidence when driving.I am now starting a new conversion for another disabled driver.bmcecosse wrote:Oh dear - well I can see why you would maybe want a servo!
