IVE BEEN RESTORING A MORRIS TRAVELLER 1971, JUST ABOUT TO TAKE IT FOR M O T, IVE GOT A SWITCH ON THE DASH TO TURN ON THE SIDELIGHTS, AND THE HEADLIGHTS, BUT CANT FIND ANYTHING TO TURN ON THE FULL BEAM, TRIED MOVING THE INDICATOR ARM, THAT DOSNT SEEM TO MOVE , WORKS OK FOR INDICATORS, BUT DOSNT SEEM TO TURN ON MAIN BEAM, AND CANT FIND ANY OTHER SWITCHES TO DO IT, ANYONE ANY CLUES ON HOW TO TURN ON MAIN BEAM, THANKS MARTYN

There should be a foot operated dip switch on the firewall, just above the gearbox cover.
give it a kick to switch between normal and high beam.

thanks for your reply, ive undersealed the entire floor inside, and there is no button [foot control] on floor anywhere, any other thoughts cheers martyn

then unless the previous owner bodged it to a hidden switch somewhere on the dash, you'll need to fit one. are you sure theres nothign next to the clutch pedal? looks abit like a foot rest tbh, took me a few days to figure out it was a button anyway its not to hard to wire in a switch should you need to, take 12v fom the batery, run it though a switch and it'l connect to the plug on the wiring loom at the back of the headlights, it shares a common ground with the driving lights so dont worry bout that. well its like that if you have the sealed beam units anyway, and asuming you have +ve earth, if not then just reverse the polarity and away you go =]

Maybe someone stole it! Look for a loose cable down by the clutch pedal - with blue - blue/white and blue/red wires. That's the cable for the foot dip switch. Some late cars had a locking steering column - they possibly had different wiring arrangements? Someone with a late car will be along shortly I'm sure!

well there is definately no foot switch near the clutch pedal, had carpets out, only the brake fluid resovoir is there, no holes for cables or anything no sign of switch ever being there either, not a clue thanks for all your replies appreciated

Should be on the floor to the left of the clutch (assuming right hand drive).

This is where it should be - Item 2 in the diagram.

All travellers would have these. Have a look under the carpet for a 1" hole and two small holes either side. There is an alloy housing to which the switch is mounted. Its quite high up on the sloping floor above the level of the gearbox cover plate.

There are two sizes of switch (at least) and I think they were smaller on later cars.

really appreciate all the replies, ill check in the morning, and try to upload picture, however i did try this and failed misserably, ill give it a go now, ive got a pic of the entire floor after i undersealed it, lets see if that works....
right well just tried to upload pic, went on [choose file] picked the pic i wanted then pressed submit,
it started to load then just went to a blank screen, so had to go onto the back arrow to get my message back to
put this on, seems i cant load pics, ill check the pics myself and have another look at car in the morning but 99.9 pct sure
there is nothing like described, have checked and double checked, but will have another go tomorrow, thanks for all your comments regards martyn

Your photo is probably too big so you are getting timed out before it can resize and upload. Try resizing it on your pc first (640 x 480 max). If you are still having problems send me a pm and I'll try to load it for you.

The late travs with the steering lock still have the floor mounted dip switch...

Ahh - thanks Matt - I just wondered if they had fitted a hand dip switch at the same time....... And yes - I see the poster had tried that, Actually - I'm not sure you NEED Main Beam for the MOT. All that is required are lights that do not dazzle!

With standard Moggy wiring someone would have had to have jumped the positive to the dip switch to dipped beam otherwise there would be no headlights at all if the plug had just been unplugged. Would be interesting to see the outcome of this.

Spot-on Nuffles! I suspect the switch is tucked up out of the way - to allow the very strange 'undersealing' of the inner floor...... Presumably should be 'oversealing' ??? I note the car is up for sale on ebay!

my mot failed on main beam not working on front n/s sealed beam. if i remove this switch and jump the dip together with the other one, will the dips work ok without the switch and will this satisfy mot tester? basically if there's a switch it has to work right? therefore as a fix for right now, i can remove it?

voltage on front n/s main beam - zero. switch?
