Front wheel bearing removal
Anyone got a bright idea for removing the inner race of the inner front bearing from the swivel pin? When I pulled the hub off it left the inner bearing behind, and when I pulled that the outer race came off along with all the ball bearings, leaving the inner race behind.

Dryad,
See this:

I have posted three photos from my collegue Hans Dieter Gollus showing how to remove whats's left of the bearing with his neat homemade removal tool. The three cap screws allow it to be fixed so it can be pulled with the pullers. The problem is, as I mentioned in that post:
1) The bearing outer race is far too tight in the hub-this could be due to tolerances. These bearings are metric.
2) Some of the cheaper replacement bearings are fitted with a plastic race.
This means that every time you remove the hub you demolish the angular contact bearing. Many will say-"how often do you remove the hub?"
The bearings are not cheap and BM claim they have the only ones that fit but very expensive. (They all seem to be aware of this problem)
We discussed this problem at length as nobody really replied to my questions in that post. What we decided in the end was to pop the hub in a lathe and use emery to dress it so that the bearing is tight enough to sit properly but does not fall apart on removal.[frame]

Re: Front wheel bearing removal
Just rest two tyre levers or wrecker bars on the brake cylinders - ends hooked behind the inner sleeve - and heave ho! In all my Minors - the complete front hub has always just slid easily off the stub axle. So I suggest inspect it and emery away any rough edges or scoring so the new bearing is a nice slide fit.

Just spoke with H.D, the tyre lever trick was fine on one side but not on the other. He had to use the pullers. Seems to be stub axle tolerances-at least it's off and the stub axle dressed with emery so the new bearing fits properly- and now ready to fit the W-brakes!

Re: Front wheel bearing removal
Thanks for the info - the removal tool looks good! I did manage to remove the remains of the bearing after I had removed the back plate, which I had to do as I was upgrading my feeble 7" with less feeble 8" brakes, but...I am not happy with the new bearing I've fitted! I was going to replace the old bearing anyway because there was some play, but the brand new bearing I've fitted seems to have exactly the same amount of play! For £27 inc postage you would think it would be better quality.

Re: Front wheel bearing removal
Try and get SKF, FAG or INA bearing-they are pretty good quality.
Minor angular contact bearing numbers:
7205B (25x52x15mm) and 7303B (17x47x14mm)

You can get these bearings from RS Components - or any industrial bearing supplier. Go in wearing dirty boiler suit and 'talk' them into a discount.........tell them it's for Morris Minor etc etc... it works
