how do I destroy it
Hello anyone with computer know how.
what do you advise me to do with my old pc, I want to dump it but its got too much personal info on there, smash it, drown it or burn it. The last one would do the job, but I'm also worried about toxic smoke. so what is the best way of destroying my knackered old PC? Anyone?
regards (Ive got a brand new PC) Dave

Take the hard drive out, take the rest to the tip.
Drill a hole in the hard drive casing, fill with saline solution leave for a week. job done.

You only need to remove the hard drive and a hammer will destroy that. The rest can be recyled or sold for spares on ebay.

Do a search for "boot and nuke" that way the hard drive will be reusable but your data will be scrubbed off.

Don't destroy the old hard drive - you can get an inexpensive case for it - and use it as a remote/portable/back-up drive!
And the power supply can be easily converted into a battery charger - or just keep it as a spare !

Re: how do I destroy it
that would be the most clunky inefficient charger going! haha would work though. scrubbing the platters with a brush also works well. that or leaving it by a very heafty magnet. another slightly more fun, but a bit more dangerous way would be to run a huge current through it, fry the lot.
my personal favourite would be to keep the pc and use it as a hardware firewall, save wasting cycles on your main pc with one.
OR!! get a few more old pc's, a tonne of cat6 and build your own super computer! ive seen that done before..... nothing really uses most of the cores avaliable. but it was a fun technical excersize.

Re: how do I destroy it
I did one for a friend last year, took the hard drive out and folded it 90deg in the box and pan folder, then the rest of the way over with a club hammer. It was suprisingly sturdy! Rest of the PC got given away and was built up as a cheapy for someone.
cheers

Re: how do I destroy it
Unless the PC is shot why not put Ubuntu* on it and give it to someone who could use a computer?
It has everything most people need day to day like an office suite, Internet browser (Firefox) CD player etc, etc.
I've done 6 PCs for a youth club, and several for people who had dodgy copies of Windows or lost their original CDs.
They have all been very pleased to have a robust, legitimate PC to use.

This is something I need to do. Can anyone post up a pic of a hard drive, so I know what it looks like?

sudo apt-get ubuntu-desktop
'sudo' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
