Escaping door handle!

About a month ago I was out in my Minor & the drivers door handle came off in my hand when I went to open the door! Luckily it's a late saloon with a lock on the passenger door so I got in this way to open the drivers door and when I had a look at it at home the pin that the exterior handle pivots on had worked loose & fallen down enough for the handle to come off.
I took the door card off & managed to knock the pin back into place and all was well until yesterday when the handle came off in my hand again , has anyone else come accross this problem? I was wondering if I could loctite the pivot pin in position but access is very limited and there's every chance loctite would get between the pin and handle probably causing it to not pivot any more!
Is it worth trying or should I consider replacing the entire door mechanism?

The pin should be replaced, I think. It's probably falling out because decades of use have caused it to wear so much that it's skinnier than it should be...
The converse could also be true -- that the door mechanism is worn -- but I think that's less likely, because that's a lot more metal.
Certainly try buying a pin before buying a whole new mechanism.

Yes a new pin and its a door top job off to get the lock out to do it properly. Not a difficult job just time consuming, the only fiddly bit is usually the 2 bolts below the quarter light.

I've ordered a new pin (two in fact, incase I drop one ) from ESM.
Wish I'd thought though I should have ordered a new quarterlight rubber seal at the same time to try to stop my leaks.

It's always good to have one extra of the small parts, '67. I've been through that too. And you should definitely get the seal ASAP -- considering water could be leaking into the door, and a rusty door bottom is not fun.
