Clutch kits

Post by 246gts »

I need to fit a new clutch to my 1098 saloon.
When I check the prices for kits comprising pressure plate, friction plate and release bearings there is a huge difference in price, from around £70 to £170. What is the real difference in quality??

You have been looking in the Moss catalogue. £171 is for the 803/948 clutch kit which also fits the Series MM but they do not seem to know that, and £143 is for the 1098. I would certainly not pay anything like those prices, and I did not pay anywhere near that when I bought a 948 clutch recently. I probably paid £80 - 90. They are probably all Borg and Beck clutches.
I would not buy a new pressure plate unless the old one was faulty.
Phone around and get a sensible price

£67.56 from Andrew Eggleton's ebay shop.

Andrew is quite good for parts-never had a problem with him.

I would only buy a plate and a release bearing - unless an obvious problem with the pressure assembly when you get at it.
