Does anyone know who stocks core plugs for the sidevalve?
I ordered all my other engine bits from ESM but they dont have them. All my other parts arrived today. I havent tried phoning around yet, thought I would chance it here first!! The one at the rear of the engine is weeping a little and now is definately the time to change it. Who ever changed it last time chiseled a nasty big hole through the bulkhead just above the gearbox cover panel as well as through the bulkhead crossmember to get at it
Have you measured the old core plug. It may be the same size as the A Series engine. The later s/v engines don't have core plugs.
Some years ago on the way to a nat. rally a friend of mine blew the core plug at the back of the block. Fortunately we were near the village garage that is familiar with another friend's Series MM. On hearing what the problem was the owner disappeared for a couple of minutes and came back with a core plug which he popped straight in with the aid of a crow bar which he levered against the cross member. Despite a small dribble the core plug stayed for several months before the engine was taken out to clean the plug hole and fit a new one.
Well I never new any sidevalves had core plugs! I thought that with the access through the side of the block, there was no need.

The early s/v had a core plug at the back of the block in the most awkward place to get to, especially with the straight bulkhead crossmember. It is effectively an engine out job to change it

They also have one in the front where the waterpump is on the later engine's
I've reactivated this thread as I too am in need of a new core plug (or at least my car is) - like the earlier post, mine is also on the back of the block and is weeping though it is an early engine in a later car, so I have a bit more clearance on the crossmember. I have spoked to Mike Perry and club spares, we think that the plug is about an inch and three eighths - but can anyone confirm this? I could also benefit from any advice on where I might get one from.
