Model changes & original colours???

Post by CowleyKids »

Evening everybody

I am considering buy a 1964 Minor but am unsure about some of the items on it.

It has the later rear lights and front side lights and indicators, it has the three spoke steering wheel and a pull starter.

Also is there anywhere listed the original factory colours with what interiors they came with?

Thank you for reading and hopefully responding.

Ta

So far as I know, after '62 a Minor should have the later lights as you said, but should have the two-spoke steering wheel. I'm unsure about the starter -- most likely it should have an integrated key-start, like a modern car. Also, most (all?) switches should be the later flick-type.

You can find all the color/interior/design info at the Potteries Branch site: http://potteries.mmoc.org.uk/Identification.htm. Also, you can always ask on here, and doubtless someone can answer any question.

Yep, two spoke wheel was introduced in '64 along with tandem wipers and redesigned dash with black speedo, aluminium finisher, key start, single glove box lid and heat-formed seats instead of duotone.

According to Ray Newell the large light units came into use in late 1963 but the 3-spoked wheel and pull start disappeared in october 1964 so your description sounds correct, it should have open glove boxes and a gold faced speedo.

I recently saw a '64 Minor with the 948 style dash and tandem wipers. Must have been original as the wiper spindle holes are offset on the tandem wipers.

This would match with my car (13 02 1964). It has a 3-spoked wheel, pull start (at least I think it should be, currently has a push button) open glove boxes and gold faced speedo.

As for the lights you can see below...

cheers
