new guy in oregon

Post by bigscooter »

hello everyone, i'm new to this forum, i'm in oregon USA, and i've recently purchased a 1961 morris minor that's worth bringing back from the dead(i hope). it's my first morris so please forgive me when i ask stupid questions :)
i just replaced a bad generator(dynamo?) with a good used alternator. is it better to keep the existing voltage regulator, or delete it? is there a good diagram someone might point me to for deleting it? i did find one that leaves the regulator mostly intact.
thanks!

Hi, welcome to the forum! I have a '62 Minor with an alternator but no reg box, so it seems it can be done either way. I expect someone will be along here soon who can give you more information.

Welcome to the forum - the regulator can be kept as a 'junction box' only - it doesn't regulate the alternator in any way! In UK we would need to convert the car to -ve earth before fitting an alternator.[frame]Image[/frame]

yes, i did convert it, after doing some reading here on the forum. i do still need to clean my ignition points though.
on the diagram below, do you think i can conect the "D" wire to the "A" junction, and the "F" wire to the "D" junction in order to use the existing dynamo wires for the alternator?

YES - cleaqn the ignition and fuel pump points - yes, you can use the old dynamo wires but wire up as shown on the diagram only.
