Stainless Steel Traveller Bolts

Post by bpr81a »

I've been contacted by a trader who is thinking about producing Stainless Steel bolts for travellers

They are the bolts with a cross head that go through the wood into the B pillar

They will be in either 304 or 316 Stainless Steel and he's planning to put a whole kit together of fasteners for changing the wood.

How many people would be interested?

I'll throw in my 'yes' too, but I've not got a Traveller.

Yet.

Stainless in contact with mild steel = electrolytic cell - and guess what - the mild steel rots away around the stainless. DON'T DO IT! Not just in Travellers - anywhere on a car body!

Aha, I was wondering where BMC was. Okay, don't do it.

Could they make the bolt set out of something else? Or does someone already make such a set? It seems like a worthwhile addition to the parts stock to me.

Just good surface plating will be fine - we used to use cadmium until it was found out! Maybe nickel is used these days - or some combo involving nickel.

The bolts could also be done in BZP or galvanised. Stainless was suggested because that's what people have asked for.
