1969 Traveller 1000

Post by HappyG80 »

Hello all,

I am a new member to the site.

I recently purchased a 1969 traveller, with all the history and use it every day to work. The engine is fine but have a few bits to sort along the way, especially for the up and coming MOT.

The engine recently had a new head gasket, and there is a very slight oil leak on inlet side of the bloack, I am hoping retorquing the head will sort this.

The brakes when I 1st brought it were poor, very spongey. I topped the fluids up and this seemed to work. Braking pulls to the left, so my thinking is that the lack of brake to the O/S front is due to a leak, as slowly loosing fluid!! (Brakes are 100% original - drums and shoes).

Wood work is ok, not tip top though. Few black marks at joints. And small holes at these points. But nothing major. Oh and some of the sealant between wood and body work has come away.

In summary, the next jobs need doing are:
1. Address brakes - leak etc if thats what it is.
2. Temporary repairs to wood and runners to rear glass.
3. Get it ready for winter - service and engine fluid flush etc.

This is my first proper classic car and moggie. Any advice ref the above would be greatly appreciated, especially tackling the wood restoration/temp. repairs. Is it possible to splice into the wood for localised repair. Especially the horizontal glass runners on horizontal pieces.

Regards,

Dave

PS. I'll get pictures of my little moggie up real soon

Welcome....speaking from very recent experience...Wednesday in fact, I was cruising down a nice hill in Devon, sunny weather, glorious, car running like Usain Bolt in Nike trainers, when my brakes failed, it was like something out of a carry on film!

Brakes, top of the list, defo, otherwise you could suddenly be stomping your tootsies out through the floor like Fred and Barney in the Flintstones!! :)

The brakes aren't that bad, just pulling to left, and fluid is dropping at a really slow rate. Live dangerously is what I say. Only joking, brakes being sorted soon!
