water pump ..

there's a leak in my moggie, it looks fairly central and from the middle of the engine bay.

hi there, i was just wondering, is the impeller inside the water pump a metal variety?

is it possible that the pump can fail and there is no water movement at all, or clogged?

It is metal - cast on early ones- pressed steel (I assume stainless) impeller on late ones. Yes - they can rot away - but you say a leak ?? Which would be the seal - is it running from the water pump ? Or is it the hopeless by-pass hose which connects water pump to cylinder head ??
