Owning a Morris Minor

In view of some of the questions raised should there be an exam for potential Morris Minor owners, or a course?

Not really Mike, I think anf for me at least, part of owning a moggy is the learning as you go and there is a wealth of information here on this forum. If we all did a course then 50% of the forum posts would not be made. It really great that we can all help each other to a greater or lesser degree with a vast array of issues. Looking at some forums for other makes and they dont even come close to the quality or friendliness we have here.

Would anyone pass on their first attempt?

The simplicity is the attraction. First time owners are likely to be enthusiastic about the historical aspects rather than reliability, comfort, handling, oil-tightedness etc and as such they are going to want a car with a minimum of items to go wrong whilst expecting something to ocassionally fail. The learning experience of year-one ownership is a steep curve but ultimately the average owner will have overcome numerous obstacles, often with the assistance of either bulletin board members or by people in the street who stop them and say "Y'know, I used to have one of these and the ABC fell of but you can fix it by XYZ".

Like gardening, cycling, watercolours, cooking etc you will have to suffer the indignity of a crop of disasters before you can taste the sweetness of your first victory over Sod (He who maketh Sods' Law), but the taste of your own victory is so much sweeter than having the victory served up by Kwik-Fit on a silver platter (at £50 per hour)

Today I flared my own Kunifer brake lines, changed a 4.22 diff for a 4.55 and fitted some new handbrake cables. I feel that I deserve my Beer tonight. Tastes like victory! (I love the smell of EP90 in the morning)
