It may be worth stripping her further so you can see the full extent, and buy most if not all of the panels at once, save delivery costs and time setting up the welder, prepping etc.

Adrian - there's an earlier thread here regarding 'order of restoration' http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t= ... sc&start=0 which you might find useful but you'll also be able to pick up a lot of tips by looking through the threads in the restoration projects forum. And start up a thread there yourself! :D

Looks like you have the welding and restoration skills which is half the battle!

I Would first start by removing that mess over the rear seat mounting box that the mice made!

Then I would take the front and rear wings off, and inspect the front and rear rear spring hangers. Repair spring hangers and chassis legs first so the car has a solid base for the suspension and wheels to sit on. Personally, I like to start by repairing the four wheel arches, then the sills, then floors, then front door pillars (if they need it).

Wheelarches can often be repaired by welding in localised butt welded patches. Not always necessary to replace the whole inner wing.

I like to repair one area of the car before cutting another away, so the shell of the car stays as strong as possible.

On the convertible project, after doing the floors and sills I also drilled out all the spot welds on the rear seat box, and removed this box as it needed extensive repairs. This also enables the rear floor under the seat box to be painted.

Please, make a start and keep posting pics and asking questions- that is the best way!

I get my panels from Bull Motif or ESM. They sell the better quality LMC Hadrian panels.

Hello john . Thank you for all the tips , I.have to agree with what you have said . Could you tell me how the spring's ate attached the body work ? If I repair the spring hangers first would I then need to remove then from the floor when I change it ?

This is my first morris I have worked on in a long time , the last time I was just an apprentice working in a garage , so have not done this as yet myself

Hi Adrian, I would check the hangers first to see if they need replacing, i.e. if they have rusted out.

Jack the car up under the rear axle, support the axle on axle stands and have a look at the underside of the car near (within a foot or so) of where the springs attach. The ones at the rear of the leaf springs are the rear chassis legs and the brackets that the front of each leaf spring attaches to the body are the front spring hangers. This bracket is available already spotwelded to a ready shaped panel about a foot square. The rear legs are available as well.

If these areas are sound and not covered in patches, then no need to replace! But they are very common rust/MOT failure points on the Minor. People often patch them several times over the years to bodge the car through the MOT but the proper lasting restoration technique here is to replace the rusty hangers with new sections- all available at around £20 ish each.
