Traveller roof nails

Anyone found a good supplier of both the gutter nails & the roof nails for a traveller?
Guess what my next job is....?

I would think that the 2 or 3 specialists that do the wood kits would be the best place to source those bits.

we got the small copper nails for nailing the roof onto the timber from our local B&Q.

Was copper what was used originally?
I've got a bad feeling that copper+aluminium might set up quite an electrolytic reaction when wet, and one of them may suffer quite badly.

With any luck someone better versed in chemistry will be along shorty.

I do hope not Mark, I used copper nails when I put new wood on my traveller last year!!

If you wanted NOT to set up an electrolytic cell, you'd have to use aluminium nails - I don't rate anyone's chances of driving them into ash.
What I found on taking mine apart was steel - the best you can hope for is sheridised or galvanised, although I'll be dipping mine in varnish before tapping them in (boatbuilder's son...).

We re-wooded my traveller in March 2007, replacing the original 45 year old wood and the nails we removed were copper. I asked around various professional restorers and was told this is what was/is used so we did the same. You need to drill a small pilot hole in the ash first and use a pein hammer to drive them in gently, so that the aluminium roof isn't damaged.
