Halogen conversion kit

Post by Sidney'61 »

When the suppliers advertise a 'conversion kit' does it just mean two halogen headlight units that are a straight swap for the original ones or are there other parts that require fitting/adapting?

thanks

It depends on the age of the car and what lights are fitted. If they are sealed beam with a push on 3 wire connector then the halogens will be a straight swap. If the lights are the separate bulb units then you will need the connector and the section of cables. Make sure that they are Wipac halogens and not Ring.

Hello Mike,

what is wrong with the Ring conversion? (I've not seen them but I have a Ring battery charger and that is a good bit of kit, I assume the same manufacturer.)

I agree with Mike. The reason is that the Wipac kit has curved lenses that more closely match the shape of the original lights. Other kits have much flatter lenses that don't look right. Purely a cosmetic thing, they work fine. In my experience, the Wipac units also tend to last longer. I have seen some cheaper units where the mirroring lifts off the reflector after a few years (but I can't remember who made them, other than it wasn't Wipac).

The Wipac Quadoptics give a far superior beam pattern and have plastic reflectors so don't rust. Ring lights are nowhere near as good
