have just striped down the rear springs on my 2 door saloon so i can clean them and paint them and replace the perrished rubbers that the u-bolts go through. well to seperat the leafs you have to undo the center bolt and spacer that goes through the 5 leafs to locate them. you've guessed it, one side came off and the other went crack and bounced all over the garage . sheared straight off flush with the bottom leaf . well i've had a good look round and can't find any for sale. anybody know where i can get one. i do have access to a lathe and have some stock 22mm 303 stainless i guess that may be the way to go.

You can probably just use an Cap Head Allen screw ?? Maybe grind off any excess head after installation - and likely to be much better spec steel too. Wouldn't use stainless next to steel - sets up a cell when wet - and the steel around the stainless dissolves......
charles ware list the part but not the price. makes me think that its discontinued, will have to call em.
i take it then that you should only use s/s fittings on s/s. and steel fittings on steel. puts a whole new slant on all those sparkling screws you find at auto jumbles then. i take the point though of some sort of a chemical reaction, not being a chemist i will have to bow to experiance. ta

i think its call "GALVANIC CORROSION"
when 2 dissimillar metals are brought together an electrical state is brought about, because they have differant compositions they have differant electrical charastircs. i remember from my motor bike days trying to take off the engine covers. always stuck and the bolts were covered in corrosion. steel bolt alloy case = galvanic corrosion. easy in it
