Headlight bulbs

I tried to find the answer on other threads but i'm totally confused! I need one headlight bulb and one 'main beam' bulb for my Moggie. Would it be best to open up the headlights and see what bulbs are in there at the moment or does somone know which bulbs i'll need?

Headlamp bulbs have a dip and main beam inside them but check if you have sealed beam units rather than removable bulbs you can check which you have by looking through the front and if removable bulb type you will see a bulb inside if sealed beam type you will just see the two filaments and no glass surround also you may have halogen bulbs and you may have a side lamp in the headlamp as well which may be your headlamp bulb that you need .Can you take car to where you are getting bulbs and they will advise you or else take headlamp off and you will be able to see what you need

If you can still get halogen bulbs that fit - and that certainly used to be the case - they are well worth having.

Take the opportunity to buy yourself a decent pair of Wipac Quadoptic Halogen headlights. Should cost less than £30 and you will be able to see where you are going

It appears to be the sealed beam type as theres no bulb inside. I need it as the headlight isnt working on one side and the full beam doesnt work on the other side. If it is the sealed beam type, is it possible for the dip-beam to work but the full beam to not work (or visa-versa)?

Yes indeed - but just out of interest - swap the two units over and see what happens!

hahaha. I will before I replace them! I also need to replace my nearside top/bottom trunnions, sort out my leaking exhaust manifold, balance my brakes, change a side-light bulb and, most annoyingly of all, I need to change my rear number plate for the MOT!

The previous owner sold the original plates (typical) and replaced them with the X plates but he got 2 white plates. As they're modern, reflective plates they must abide by modern regulations, i.e. white at the front and yellow at the rear. I'll take this oppertunity to get some vintage plates but its an extra £30 towards the MOT cost.
