Winter has officially ended
Last day of the ski season today. All Ive got to look forward to now is finding Roy's £1 DVD on flea-bay for 50p

Has it stopped snowing yet Bill ?? I used to come up to Aviemore a LOT - at this time of year - Scottish Rally used to be based in Granton and then in Aviemore itself. Our Co had a house in Craig-na-Gower Ave which I could have the (free!) use of - great base for Rally watching and general walking. Not sure the neighbours appreciated all the cars - or the late night 'revelry'!

I heard tell that the residents of Craig-na-Gower Avenue used to get a rate reduction cos of all the noise, commotion and all night partying

If only the proposal for double summer time get through and we will finally be rid of the clock moving nonsense twice a year.

I tried hard not to rise to the bait -- BUT
The simple solution would be to split the UK into 2 time zones north and south and rebuild Hadrian's wall at the same time

That might be fine if you live south of Manchester but in the more northern climes it gets dark quite early on a winters evening and light very late of a morning.StaffsMoggie wrote:If only the proposal for double summer time get through and we will finally be rid of the clock moving nonsense twice a year.

Re: Winter has officially ended
You spoke too soon, this week has been typical July weather
! When they built the Millenium Stadium, they should have made the roof much bigger.....from Lands End to Lerwick.

Re: Winter has officially ended
Must agree, last night I had to run out to the car (left the wifes magazines in the boot) and nearly got blown away with the gusts. Interestingly, since they built that roof at wimbledon, their fortnight has been the best two weeks weather of last year and so far this year.

There are compensations to gale force winds and heavy rain - Makes it more difficult for the midges to eat you alive

I didn't realise they are found that far east; I thought they were a western Highlands & Islands thing. I first encountered them at a camp site by Loch Lommond and they got worse as we travelled further north. They reached a peak on Skye
.

No we get them here - not quite so bad as on the west coast. Seems much worse than normal this yearBlaketon wrote:I didn't realise they are found that far east;

Re: Winter has officially ended
Thats what all of the 'experts' were predicting. Unfortunately they failed to take into consideration the effect that the harsh winter would have on the midge's natural predators - hence it appears to be a bumper year for midges
Re: Winter has officially ended
Oh dear - I certainly remember being eaten alive when walking round Loch Morlich one year........
