Van / Pick up Wiring Loom

I am currently searching for spares for my 1967 Morris Minor pick up project, which I hope to start in a couple of months. The wiring is one of my top priorities and I have decided to go the whole hog and purchase a new loom rather than trying to repair what is left of the original loom. I have a couple of questions before purchasing a new loom if anyone would be kind enough to guide me;

1.) My Minor pick up is a Malta made pick up (ie has the Maltese style pick up box) and was originally a GPO van. Is the wiring loom for the van and UK pick ups identical ? If not, what are the main differences as I am not sure whether I should order a pick up loom or van loom since my Morris was originally a van!

2.) Was the loom originally cloth covered in 1967?

3.) I intend to fit the pick up with a 1275cc Morris Marina engine. If I were to fit it complete with the alternator, would this entail alot of modifications to my new loom? Alternatively would it be possible to keep the original dynamo?

I doubt there will be much difference between a van and pickup loom - maybe rear interior lights??
The loom would have been cloth covered but this would have covered rubber insulation - only the very early cars had cloth only covering the wires.
The engine part of the loom would be different for an alternator but you could use the original dynamo on your 1275 - I do. However, after saying all of this there is a company called Autosparks who will make any loom for any car to any specification. ie, you tell them what you want (Minor Pick up with 1275 engine and alternator plus any additional requirements for reverse lights or driving lights etc) and they will make it for you - Simples !

Or just make your own loom - it's not exactly rocket science!

only gpo and royal mail vans differed for the rear interior lights, but these were often wired in after wards any way

Think the best bet is to get a pick up loom and leave my original dynamo on the 1275.

Personally if I had a nice shiny 1275 with alternator attached, I would be very glad - there's a reason why businesses sell alternator kits to dim owners... I'd need a LOT of convincing to go back to running a dynamo rather than an alternator, shorter dynamo life being just one. However if fitting a regulator, you should also fit the regulator that goes with it.

You don't need a regulator with an alternator. The regulator just works as a connection box. If you order a new loom for an alternator it will completely bypass the regulator
