Kingpins and trunnions

Evening all,

I'm after a full set of kingpins and trunnions for my 1966 Minor, both sides.

I have some MOWOG reproductions on order from BM but they're currently waiting on one of the parts.

I would prefer MOWOG items - does anyone have any ideas on where I could try to find some? Have tried a few places but they were either sold out or not MOWOG stuff, which is my preference at this point.

They ran out a long long time ago........ Dennis (aupickup) on here had some original stock - in fact he had one advertised a few days ago - check the For Sale section and PM him to see what he has left. While in there - well worth fitting polyurethane bushes to all the moving joints - I did this job yesterday - very straightforward. The rubber bushes often don't last long - poly should last 'for ever' !

I have read that the kingpins can be used on either side if you change the steering rod - is this correct?

I'm not certain, but I think the N/S trunnion has a left hand thread and vice versa on the off side.

Steering arm fits in a taper hole. Surely if you put the assembly on the other side, then the arm would not fit?

Morris Minor Centre Birmingham and ESM both had plenty of stock last time I checked.

Thanks all. Was hoping to bag aupickup's kingpin if they were interchangable - its my o/s thats more in need of replacement.

ESM are currently showing out of stock for MOWOG items and the l/h reproduction, so no joy there. Haven't tried the Morris Minor Birmingham centre yet, the website invites you to ask for the price which I assumed meant out of stock so a phonecall may be in order.

Is it worth hanging on for reproduction MOWOG items or is it all much of a muchness out there at the moment?

Definitely NOT interchangeable. If Dennis has no originals left - then just buy from a supplier. Have you tried Bull Motif BULL - or DSN Classics DSN ??

BM waiting on n/s lower trunnions. Interestingly, DSN can offer the kingpins, but list the l/h one as having a right hand thread so requiring a r/h thread hub nut

Seems BM have got some more stock of the n/s bottom trunnions in, thank goodness.

Is there another shortage on the horizon?

Yes - I'm sure a slip from Dennis - it is the nearside kingpin that should be LH thread - both on the pin itself and on the stub axle. Have to say - I don't fancy the idea of a RH thread on the LH stub axle! BMC made it LH thread for a good reason. Yes -with a split pin it shouldn't come undone - but you can never be sure.

Phew! Had me worried for a minute there.
Just fitted a nearside trunnion and I know it was left hand threaded.

There is a good reason to use near side and off side, they stay the same where ever you are looking from.
Left and right are subjective.

There are no genuine MOWOG swivel pins available new, maybe NOS but thats all. All swivel pins now are made by B.Motif only and they supply the rest of the trade ESM have shelved their designs on production.
