It maybe that you just have too much load on that circuit, but there is definately no reason for it other than a bad connection - unless the fuse is loose and bouncing around... Do you foglights flash if you go over bumps

I left my ignition live unconnected in mine and just hooked permanent live up to the battery. Mine's a Blaupunkt unit and only uses the ignition live as an electronic switch. It still turns on without ignition live, and when you turn it off it's totally dead (acts as if ignition has been turned off, as ignition live is blanked off). This means it stays on when I turn the engine off which is useful when waiting for someone, and it doesn't take much effort to reach over and turn it on/off when I need or or I'm done with it.

Tried to use the set up you mentioned without ignition connection and it wouldn't work.
So connected perm live to battery, earth to earth and ignition live to ignition though my new multimeter decided its no longer going to function so this bit was trial and error till I found the right location ^^.
Anyway suffice to say I now have functioning stereo although it will only work with ignition on, but meh it works lol

Until the 'powers that be' swap us to daft digital radio - which has poorer sound quality than FM! At least that 'switch off' seems to have been postponed - for a while.
