And risk a fire! Absolutely NOT. Run it from a fuse and be safe - it will make absolutely NO difference to the pathetic 4 watt output!

the cable should already be fused with an inline fuse on the live though

Yes - said that already - but often that fuse is near the radio - not at the supply end where it matters! So live cables coming through the bulkhead - rub on the body - and up go the flames. Best to feed from a fused supply to protect the cable - the little inline fuse is there to protect the radio.

Fuse at other end still won't protect the cable.
Maybe I made to many assumptions of the OP intentions/ability since I have assumbed that the use of a rubber gromet would be used in any holes the cable would travel through.

Connect the red wire to a green wire and you should be good to go, if you want to be able to use the rig with the engine switched off then connect the red wire to a purple one.

C B Radio, that brings back memories. I still come out with some of the language to this day. When i say to my son 'do a flip flop on the dougnut at the magic roundabout, go square wheeled and i will tell you my twenty' he looks at me a bit funny. :D
