Chassis number is very low 6 digits and starts 106*** so this puts the build between 1948 & 1952.
LCVs built in 1960 had chassis numbers from 100242 to 118555. Chassis number 104980 was built in May and chassis number 108755 in July so yours was probably built around June 1960.

Amazing ! Have to say - it would have been better for load carrying if they HAD built Travs on the chassis. Perhaps this was a trial to determine if it was feasible to make a high load capacity version ? I assume then it has the 8 or 9 leaf springs - and tele dampers fitted ?

Not got MOT yet - I need to renew the brakes from been laid up for the last 3 years then check over all the usual MOT items, but I don't think it will take too long :-)
Then I need to get underside all cleaned off and waxoiled and sort out the interior - A bit of a touch up on the paintwork and she'll be like a new 'un :-)

Re: Morris Estate

Time for an update here after months of digging about....

Heritage cert shows it as been built as a chassis cab (as expected) and came off the production line on 17/05/1960 where it was shipped to Colemore Dept in Birmingham. It was not first registered until 29/07/1960 (time for Colemores to convert to a Traveller?) to Horatio Harry Groves of Acocks Green Birmingham (anyone know him?)

It left the factory in primer - The buff log book shows it as "Grey" in colour but was crossed out and replaced with "Blue" and it was also registered as a "Traveller Cab".

So, not really any further forward with the mystery except that it was most probably converted by the dealer but the "why" part is still unknown......

might be worth looking through the national archives..

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/ ... &cid=-1#-1

it appears that the company records were given to them by an old director of the company!
