Change of carb for my Midget engine?

Not a Moggie but still an A series engine. I find tuning up twin carbs tedious and wondered if there was a single carb and manifold I could use on my Midget that would give the same performance without the agro. THere is a lot of expertise here so I thought I would ask. Thanks.

1098 10CC engine with the 2" crank. Ported and flowed head , sports exhaust manifold, lightened balanced flywheel, fast road cam.

HIF 44 on Mg Metro inlet! Will be even better if also fitted with 12G940 head.........

Don't do it then, they don't need regular adjusting.
As someone once said and it has been quoted ad infinitum, 90% of carburettor problems are electrical.

Check that the HIF carb and manifold will fit without denting the bonnet first! That's why I've stuck with twin HS2's on my Sprite, but my brother did manage to fit an HIF to his Midget on a modified Osselli manifold (he had to machine it to tilt the carb down a few degrees).

Or just put a wee power bulge in the bonnet! The good thing about the HIF is that it will operate over a range of mounting angles. And actually an HIF 38 would probably be big enough power wise, although it's not any smaller! But it really isn't hard to tune up twin SUs - I actually found it quite satisfying to get them just right, and they should then stay in tune for a long long time. It's a myth that they need constant retuning.

The HIF44 fits the 1275 but the extra height puts the dashpot plunger too close to the bonnet. This car, however, originally used a 1500 shell with much lower engine mounting points, thus allowing the engine to sit lower in the frame. The previous shot is of the Lenham midget built on a 1098 shell and in this shot the same 1275 engine and HIF are dropped into the Lenham which is only possible due to the extra height of the Lenham bonnet. I can't find any photos of the 1275 in a satndard car or in the 1500 shell but I recall that only the manifold made by TITAN is the right shape to clear a 1275+HIF in a standard car[frame]Image[/frame]
