Needle Charts

Post by mike.perry »

I was reading back through the old topics and wondered whether the mintylamb/suneedle website could be made to work in reverse. Normally you enter the needle codes and it plots the comparative profiles. What would be useful would be to fit the car with a standard needle and run it on a rolling road which would give rich and lean readings. Enter the standard needle and the rich/lean figures and the website would choose a needle to match those readings. This would save a lot of effort ploughing through needle charts. Wishfull thinking?

As long as you know how many thou to reduce/increase the needle thickness based on the lean/rich readings, then it should be a simple bit of programming to find the 'ideal' needle and then the closest 'production' needle available.

Having said that, the guys at the rolling road will be able to suggest a needle to cure the problem while you are having the car tuned/tested. :D If they can't then you are at the wrong rolling road place!
