Wiring up modern head unit to Moggies?

Post by stephenpolhill »

Hi. I have got a couple of nice speakers but no player to play it on.
I would like to know how do you guys wire up your modern headunits as they have a plug for the modern wiring loom so any pics or advice would be good.
I have a standard electrical system (negative earth) and the two speakers and an iPod.
Thanks

Just J-j-j-jiggle it a bit.

If they didn't come with your new radio you can get the plugs with short lengths of wire in each pin. all you will have to do is wire in an earth a fused live to the memory plus the main feed & speakers , the pin positions are pretty much standardised in the two plugs & instructions with the radio should tell you which pin does what. there will probably be a few extra wires you may not need like electric aerial & amp signal etc these can be cut off or taped up out the way

So it really is as easy as I thought. I just didn't know if in order to work, the unit had to use the wires in the plug that I can't attach to a mog. It's that or buy a amplifier (found a good one for £25) and plug the ipod straight into that. I tried it on a friends and it works but it would be nice to have a head unit with CD and radio. Whatevers cheapest :P
Thanks

with a suitable adaptor lead you can connect an ipod / usb stick etc into most modern stereos & usually you can control the ipod's basic functions from the stereo so it can be hidden out of sight in the glovebox
