What colour is my pickup ?

Post by sgray »

Having walked round every car at Brooklands today and not found one the same colour as my truck, I'm starting to wonder if it's a Minor colour at all.

The thing is I have some glovebox surrounds I need to paint, so it would be useful to know.

I realise it's tricky from a picture, but here goes anyway..

obviously it's Blue  , but Persian Blue perhaps?

It's blue.
I don't think it's and original colour either.

Is it sprayed in 2Pack? If it is it may well be the nearest they could get to Persian Blue. :D

I don't know - how would I tell? It has the look of a home respray as I'm sure she wasn't stripped down for respraying (lots of overspray)..

Ah, so you noticed I haven't fitted those dash covers yet.. I'd like to say I've got them all sanded, primed and ready to be sprayed but I haven't quite got that far :-?

doesn't look like they will get fitted though, unless I can decide on a paint colour :(

LCVs were often supplied in primer for the customer to finish in the company colours. There is a list of commercial vehicle colours on the Series MM website.

Hard to tell what colour it is exactly without seeing it, Russ will probably know better than me, but I believe LCV's only had two blues:

Persian Blue as you've already stated
or
Teal Blue like mine

Yours looks teal blue to me.

Looks too dark for Persian Blue which is much lighter: [frame]Image[/frame]
I'd guess its someones attempt to match up Teal Blue or get something close. You can normally find traces of the original colour under the dashboard or in the doors unless the respray was really comphrensive. Teal is probably a bit richer and greener than yours, but very similar.

Not meaning to rob the post, but why are some LCV's door tops body coloured (Like the one that Iain shows) and some others Ive seen are Black. The original ones on mine were black but they were in a terrible state, being not stainless steel and the quarter light frame literally rotted away from the main frame work, so Ive fitted Saloon 4 door tops which are stainless steel.

Just wondered what makes a black topped or body coloured topped door frame?

In the "Original Morris Minor" book it states that all LCV window frames were painted body colour however in a couple of the photos the GPO and Telecom vehicles have black frames so perhaps it was an option for those types of vehicles?

from the pictures (on a laptop screen, thereforfe slight colour distortion...) I would say absolutely Teal Blue.
With aftermarket paint it is often pigmented manually, allowing a small amount of variation. Even if they try to follow the code list there's a chance that if any of the pigments were out of spec it would vary the shade.
