How to fry your alternator

Post by alainmoran »

If anyone is interested, fitting a large sound-system is a great way to fry your alternator :(

Solution: My local auto-electrician's factor sold me an LRA-461 for £45 (cash) which is a 65A direct replacement for the standard 30A job :D

Don't see why it would 'fry' the alternator ? It may well drain the battery - but the alternator should still cope. If you fit a larger alternator - be sure to double up the cabling, or you WILL fry that! And - the fan belt may struggle to cope with the power required - so make sure it is both new and tight - and carry a spare.
