which thermastat housing should i use the one off my 1098cc or the 1 that came with the 1275cc, also can i use my heater valve off my 1098

Thermostat housing will be OK, just exits at a slightly odd angle. Likewise the 1098 heater valve will be OK, but may need a slight thump on the battery tray to clear it. Mine touches the lower lip of the battery, but this is an integral moulded plastic ledge to allow for base clamping in some more modern cars, so in effect acts as a "buffer" to protect the actual battery casing.
As a matter of interest, what did that rusty diff end up going for? Forgot to keep an eye on it!

Some use an ex MGB stat housing - to get a better angle to the rad connection. I find a hose cut from the bent section of a bottom hose works fine!

Birmingham Morris Minor Centre sell a 1098/1275 conversion thermostat housing which is the correct angle from the 1275 head to the 1098 rad. If you want to fit the 1098 heater valve see the recent topic.
