Rocker gear

Post by williamraff »

Hi, can anyone tell me if the rocker gear for a 12g295 head is interchangeable with any of the other engines? I dont want to buy one without a shaft and rockers to find that they are specific to this head.
Many thanks as always to this excellent forum.
Kind regards,Will. :D

The standard rocker gear from a 948/1098 fits fine with the 295. The later Mini 'sintered' rockers can be used too - but the pressed steel rockers fom a 1098 are better. When fitting a 940 head, the option is to use the sintered rockers - OR, re-align the pressed steel rockers on the shaft so they act directly over the valve tips. This the better option - but does take a little time and care to do.
Be aware -that a 295 head needs skimming before it will give a suitable compresion ratio on a 948 or 1098 engine. But do first check if it's been skimmed already. All heads start out at 2.750" thickness - so any less, is what has already been skimmed off.

Many thanks, invaluable info as usual. I was not aware the head needed to be skimmed, I will definitely look out for that in future.
Kind regards,Will.
