Snowman Rally

Post by Jefftav »

Here are 3 pics from the Snowman Rally held in the Inverness area each year. No action pics (sorry) but the service area was very busy with lots to see. Some of the teams are really well practised and you see them jack the car up and have it on these nifty stands that slot into the side of the car practically before the driver & co-driver are out of the car. The Imprezza below was the eventual winner and in service that team looked really slick the driver & co-driver must have also done a good job as they led from start to finish.

The Escort was really a fabulous looking car very well turned out they were having a problem with sticking brakes but managed to the end. There was also a Talbot Sunbeam and Ford Capri taking part but I could get any decent pics of those. At the finish the Capri must have hit something as the front n/s headlight & wing/bumper was bashed in

Very nice Escort

Roy there was quite a lot of snow and ice but nothing to bother the drivers much and only one serious off in the stage up at Tain I believe which held up the stage, I wasn't at that stage so don't know how bad the conditions were. The cars I seen all had winter type tyres fitted. There was a DAM 410 (or a name like that) which is a Metro 6r4 replica which had really skinny tyres on with very deep tread which I guess was for grip as it has the V8 engine fitted in the rear & 4wd. The wheels looked out of place but the engine sounded awesome the cars occupants had to wear ear protectors and my ears were still ringing well after the car dissapeared.

Thanks Jeff! I was present when the very first 6R4 was revealed by the Works at a Rally in Argyle - awesome machine! It was of course a V6 engine - but yes - I believe V8 versions are being used now, the V6 being hard to find!
