Obituary Our Little Doggy

Today at 11 AM we lost our litle chihuahua Rambo who we have had for 13.5 years. Dont know why I am telling you all but I am devastated as he was well 2 days ago and now he is dead due to kidney failure. Some of you may have seen him at the rallys we attended. He was a very special little doggy.<br><br>

I can understand exactly how you feel and you have my deepest sympathy. It's nearly two years since we lost Meg (She had been ill and back and fore to the vet but when the end came it was quite sudden and unexpected). She was 16 and had been with us since she turned up in the garden, aged about five months, one Winters day in 1992. Sometimes I still dispair that she's gone but the memories are still there so hang on to yours.

We had other pets (Rabbit and dogs) many years ago and losing them was also painful. Indeed after our Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Storm, died in November 1989, I felt that I couldn't go through it again and Meg was unplanned. At first we didn't know how long she would stay or whether she would be claimed (We put a non descriptive notice in the local shop). I said to myself that I would try not to become too attached to the cat, as the memory of Storm was still raw. It didn't work and if I could have given away half of the life I had left to Meg, I would have done so without a second thought.

It's always sad when we loose one of our furry friends. We lost our oldest cat in January. She was just short of her 17th birthday, and although we have 4 others we still miss Holly. Sorry for your loss

Sorry to hear of the loss of your little dog.We lost our dear Spud (to the Left) on Sunday.She was 4 and had a piece of cartelege press against her spinal cord and cause total paralysis.She had to be put to sleep.I know how you feel.

Longdog - so sorry about Spud, I remember seeing her sitting in your car photos. Sometimes sadly there's nothing that can be done to help is there? I lost one of my Parrots recently - she had a tumour under her wing. I held her just after she'd hatched from her egg. Treasure your memories.

RIP Rambo, Spud and Meg.

The loss of a much loved pet is so hard. My gorgeous little Pekingese, Oscar, died suddenly in his sleep a month ago. He was a tiny dog with a massive personality, no doubt Rambo was the same.

Thanks for such kind words.Naturally she will remain on my sig.As so many of these wonderful darlings need homes we will in time be rescuing another Greyhound.
All pets give so much in terms of wellbeing they should all be celebrated in both life and death.

Sorry to here about your losses friends. It's always distressing when losing a pet, you get so attached to them. We've lost several over the years, the last was our kitten getting run over. I felt awful for ages as it was me who let him out in the morning and I watched him jump over the neighbours fence. The next time was a knock at the door and a neighbour holding his collar!

This is all the more tragic as Spud was so young. I always feel its so unfair that something that might be cured with surgery isn't always feasible on an animal. The trouble is you can't explain it to them.

Storm & Meg each hated the vets. Storm even knew the way there by car, as he would get progressively more wound up the nearer we got to the vets (About 12 miles away). If we started out towards the vets (Turn right outside the house) but then took another road, he would be fine - just exited because it meant a trip out and a probably a walk. During the 1970s, my father owned a Lotus Elan and Storm really liked that car. If he could get into the passenger footwell, you had horses work to get him out. I remember my mother arriving home in it once and as she opened the door, he sprang right over her and he landed in the passenger footwell.

Meg just didn't like going anywhere. Her whole world revolved around my parent's house & garden, plus about 50 yards of the adjoining field. She disliked going anywhere (Even coming to my house) and disliked going too fast. She would howl a bit if the speed got too high. 55mph was the limit in my mother's Vauxhall Nova, whereas in my MK 2 Golf GTI, she was OK until we reached higher speeds. We got to know her limits. Of the cars she rode in, she appeared to dislike the Traveller least. By contrast if we were working on a car in the garage (Or on the drive if the weather was good), Meg was in her element and would inspect any components or tools that she could sniff.

I've gone a bit off topic here but it just proves, the memories never go.

The end of an era. Our sweet little Pekingese girl passed away yesterday at the fine old age of 12 years and 6 months. She was always a playful little dog and started our love of this fantastic breed.

So long Rosie Peke.

When I saw this thread back near the top, I realised that someone was going through it again .

Oddly enough, Meg’s (See earlier post) “Boyfriend” died in the New Year. He would have been 18 in the Summer. I use the word “Boyfriend” very loosely. I think Meg viewed Angus as some kind of vagabond but over the five years that he had been calling on us (During Megs’ life), her attitude towards him softened from one of hostility to a sort of “Oh it’s him again” acceptance. Given a few more years and I think Meg might have come round and I would say that of all the visitors (Two or four legged) Angus was the most acceptable to Meg. Don’t get the idea that Meg was an unfriendly cat; it was just that she trusted only the immediate family.

Angus was much more outgoing . He used to go for walks with the people he lived with and their dogs. When we first knew him, I think he was trying to move in. We put up a few notices and as a result found out where he lived and that he was called Angus (And that he hadn’t been home for several days). From then on, he used to call on us and you could always tell it was Angus, coming through the field, by the “Angus trot” , which was quite distinctive. He used to come to say hello and have a few of Meg’s cat treats. This continued after Meg died (He would sometime stay all afternoon) until just before last Christmas. Sadly over Christmas Angus took a turn for the worse and died early in the New Year. He had been “Winged” by a vehicle about a year ago but had got over that. What finished him was a thyroid problem (Possibly a tumour), which initially seemed to be kept under control with medication (We didn’t know that his dosage had needed to be increased) and he had put on the weight that he had lost. It was quite shock to learn that he had died.

Now there is just a black cat, who calls in for a snack but we don’t know where “Blackie” lives.
