Garage extension

Post by southerly95 »

Our garage (behind the moggy on the pic) is 15' by 9' and big enough to take Betty our convertible plus racking, tools, beam hoist etc but there is no room left to work in. I want to refurb my daughter's Traveller's woodwork so I'm thinking about making a gable end temp extension using scaffolding and gazebo covering type of material solid enough to cope with the worst and best of spring and summer weather. The hedge on the right has been cut back so there's enough room.

Has anyone done this or similar? Pic's would be helpful if so? Thanks for looking, regards, John

Looks a practical proposition, it should be fairly sheltered with the surrounding walls etc. I'd use tarpaulins to cover it, and keep the thing as low as practicable. Make sure the neighbours/authorities don't have grounds for complaint though! If you get on well with the traveller restoration, then you can do mine while you are in the mood!

You're a lucky man if you get Domestic Authority to do that! I suggested last year that our garage would benefit from a 6' extension - out to the building line of other houses further down the street. It just brought on a rant about something called 'painting and decorating' - which our house seemingly needs from time to time. So I won't be mentioning that again!

Must admit the view from that side window may take a downturn with your proposals! Its one thing having a project tucked away out of sight, but in the front garden? Spoken by one who has half an MGB on blocks out front!
