Used MM Waterpump Pricing

Post by ADO16 »

Hello all,

As some of you already know, I was fortunate to have found a waterpump on some spare sidevalve engines that I had for Ian McDougall for his MM, but here's my dilemma. I'm in the process of figuring out what a fair price for a used waterpump with a pulley and fan would be, so I decided to bring this to all your wisdom (the Forum) for an answer. I'm by know means the type of guy that needs to gouge someone for a part, I just enjoy to help in keeping someones car driving, and yes I probably might need it down the road, but for now it will help a fellow MM owner out on the road for miles of smiles.
Thank you!

Steve
p.s. I hope I didn't throw all of you under the bus so to speak.

I don't suppose you know if it leaks or not? Not that that should make any difference as it would be wise to rebuild it or have it rebuilt with new bearings/seal.
I had mine rebuilt to include a ceramic seal assembly which came with a 'lifetime' warrenty - about £70/80 as I remember.
Difficult question though - not been very helpful have I!

Hello,

As I stated in my PM to Ian, I mentioned that the waterpump is of no known condition that he may or may not get lucky with a perfectly good one, but I personally would get it rebuilt anyway. Thanks for the input.

Find out the postage and work that into the price. I think the MMOC spares charges about £55 when it can find one and that is without the pulley. It is really up to you to sell it at a price you and the buyer are happy with without ripping him off.

Hi Steve,

I have been following this topic with interest. It is not clear from your post if you have located more than ONE water pump. The reason being is that I am also looking for the MM SV engine waterpump. Would be interested to know if there is more than one pump available from the USA and would welcome your reply.....spike

Spike,

I found the other two engines that I have were confirmed to be only earlier engines without the waterpumps. At some point if I find another one I will most certainly let you know. Unfortunately, the amount of MM's that are surviving here now are almost nil.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply - pity. Can you confirm if the evgine (block, crankshaft, pistons, cam and valves etc) is available and for sale. If YES then I would appreciate first dibs (refusal). To assist me can you provide the sizes of the crankshaft journals (main and big end bearings) and pistons. This will help in trying to assess the condition of the engine and also is there any evidence (rivetted plate etc)that this is a reconditioned unit (I doubt this). Please contact my PM to further discuss the details......spike

Keith,

Was it just the waterpump pulley only, and not the waterpump?
