Morris has been going well :)

Post by dan45 »

Well ever since I passed my driving test ( 14/12/09 ) My car has been brillaint for me, my mates were very skeptical at 1st saying stuff like 'oh that car will be nothing but trouble' and 'its as slow as a cow' etc etc, but its been brillaint and shut them all up, (of course there was rubbing it in to do). I thought I would just let everyone now that yes an 18 year old is using a morris minor as a daily car, a good one at that. Have to admit as its like the ordinary young guys car ( big sound system, and my mates in) I get some funny looks, but its all of the fun of owning a classic car :). But in my opinoin it's a great 1st car the insurance is only £350, no tax, cheap to run, perfect formula i think. The awsome part is that, most blokes my age and some random blokes i met in tesco car park (doing handbrake turns etc) are all telling me how i should not be driving this at my age and it'll fall apart, then I turn on the engine, get my mate wil or norm( whoevers got shotgun) to brace the passenger door as the catch is slighty dodgy at the moment, then as its back wheel drive do some awsome car park drifting morris style, then I say to them top that and they shut up and I win the king of the car park :P and they drive of. But anyways I thought I would just tell poeple of my experinces as a minor driver, and how much me an alota my mates have grown to love kate ( my car), and even thought im thinking of buying a new car in a year ( faster one at that, im young i need speed :P) but Im buying it from job earning, kate is being kept as its the best car Ive ever owned( had 3 before i passed my test :P). Olders cars just have so much more character and charm plus the noise from an older car is one you cant beat, the exhuast note, gearbox whine, scaring the life out of people that ive etheir fell out with or have badmouthed my car, with a massive backfire as i go past, fun stuff dont get that in new cars ( just to let you know it does not back fire becuase of bad timing and whatnot, its done by me :) also alot of the ladies have liked my car, suprise to me to be honest :P anyways would like to hear other peoples experinces etc, thanks danny

You'll soon break a half-shaft with your 'drifting'. Won't look so smart then!

Hi Dan, I must say my experiences are relatively similar to yours, i have a radio fitted, but not massive sound system. And they do go nicely sideways, but more often in the ice or heavy rain, rather than just in random carparks. I also get quite a few jokes about it just falling apart, however as of yet this unsurprisingly hasn't happened! As for something faster, what u really want is to just upgrade! You'll find its probably still cheaper on insurance and a lot more fun do drive than a modern car. Also this will give you the surprise factor, of when people expect you to be slow, and you can easily out-sprint them, since minors really don't weigh much at all. There are quite a few younger drivers on this forum to (i'm still only 17). Nice to hear about your experiences.
