Clutch adjustment - Any?

Post by littleblackflash »

Hi All

When going up steep hill my cluch starts slipping (I think). There is plooms of smoke out the back and it smells like a burning clutch.

When driving along the flat, everything seams ok. But as soon as I put my foot on the cluch pedal it disengages.

Could it be my cluch is always slipping and only noticed up hills? How can I adjust it such that I have to push the pedal down an inch before it starts to slip?

Look under the car at the gearbox and you will see the clutch actuating rod. You'll see 2 nuts and a spring. Disconnect the spring and slacken the locking nut off then adjust the other nut up or down the shaft to give the free play. From memory anout 3/4" on a 948 and 1 1/2" on a 1098, but in reality you only just need enough to give clearance. Reconnect the return spring after adjustment. Refer to the workshop manual if in any doubt...

Certainly don't let it slip! It will burn out in 2 minutes - maybe has already! Let's hope not.
