Engine Hoist in or Around Cambridgeshire

Hi there. I am looking for an engine hoist/lift to take my engine out. Does anyone have one I could borrow or know of one available and also how much to hire?

Mine was about £40 from machine mart so hiring for a week won't be expensive. Try your local hire shops if no one local has one you can borrow....

HSS hire shops do them for about £50-60 for 7 days if you can't get one for free

You really really don't need a hoist - it's not heavy - without the head/dynamo etc. One possible method is with a ladder set across the wings and tied to the engine. One each side lifts and a third guides it out.

You don't have to use a hoist, I did mine with a trolley jack and a bit of plank to spread the load on the sump.

Front panel off, release engine from gearbox, then up till the sump is level with the front cross member, walk it onto that, lower jack and then raise again in the front of the cross member, walk onto jack again and away.

Better to have another set of hands to help but not compulsory.

It's a heck of a lot easier and quicker with a hydraulic hoist

All the methods mentioned work but it depends how you value your time

Dont hire one itll cost about £40-50 for a weekend and you can buy new for about £140.

If you dont then need to keep it, it will sell on ebay for say £120 as a 'used once' item.

Saving of £20-30 and you can take as long as you want to do the job.
