Parcel Shelf Installation

Post by ADO16 »

Hello all,

I'm in the process of installing an interior parcel shelf for a friends 61 Tourer and found that the shelf that he bought from Newton Commercial is not cut to fit. I also noticed that the shelf seems to be wider than not and I can't seem to make it fit unless I trim a bunch off to make it work. Has anyone ever had this problem? Thank you in advance.

Steve

p.s. I tried to find this topic first in the "Useful Tips" section but with no avail.

Just a thought, but the parcel shelf design changed in February '59 and the early type was quite a bit narrower than the later type. Is it possible that as your friends car was an export model it was built in '59 but not registered until '61, meaning that it has the early type parcel shelf? This might explain why the new one doesn't fit properly.

Check that you have the padded cross bar up the correct way. I think that I put mine in upside down and the parcel shelf has too much of dip in it.
If the car should have the earlier short parcel shelf then it will have an un padded cross bar.
