Going forward in reverse gear!
New to the world of moggys, we had owned our morris 2 weeks when it started popping out of 4th gear.Took it to a garage who took the gear box out and replaced the bushes. After a week of getting it back i tried to park it and put it in reverse and the car went forward and no other gears worked. Returned to garage who later gave it back and said it had "sorted itself out" A week later trying to park again put it in reverse and went forward. The garage man seems baffelled. Any advice to give him?

Would I be right in saying that the Minor gearbox is the easiest one in the world to work on?
No special tools..........really, no special talent required, if one has a good workshop manual.
Take bmc's advice...................it does sound to me that this 'mechanic' shouldn't be allowed near any car. I wouldn't trust him to wash mine!

It may be the spring loaded plunger at the back of the extention, try slackening it off a bit. At the moment if the resistance is to great to overcome before you are fully over to the right with the gearstick, pulling it back will engage 4th. Cant think how else your problem could develope, especially if it 'sorted itself ' at some point'
To test this, give the stick a sharp knock to the right, THEN down.
