possible carb problems

Post by bleddyn »

hi, I've been having problems of missing and cutting out when warm, and not being able to start when warm, have gone through the process of checking all electrical, and have changed coil, took her out for a spin and it did'nt miss at all, but when i got back it cut out and woud'nt start again,
so had a check on carb and noticed the float chamber pot is loose, and i can turn it back and forth with my hand, is this normal, had a check on my mates moggy and his seems tight conpared to mine, any suggestions??
thanks

No - should be tight - but if not leaking that's not the real problem. Look at the fuel level/valve inside the float lid - is it leaking ? All the signs point to too much fuel when idling - when running , the engine uses it all so no problem. I think a new float valve will solve the problem.

What year is the car?
Have you checked that the piston is dropping correctly and there is oil in the top of the piston?
Check that the choke control is closing completely.
