radiator

Post by johncannon »

Quick question -my 1963 4 door radiator has started to leak, and have been offeres a new replacment. However it is not the same -it is slightly taller and narrower and the fixing bolts are in a diferent location. Is this radiator for a latter minor?

Thanks

Radiators for earlier minors have a top section that is taller than the later ones. They also usually look more substantial in terms of thickness of materials used and they often have a drain tap at the bottom. Some of them even have a pipe at the bottom that connects to the heater.
However (in my experience) they are not thinner. the fixing holes are in the same place as the later ones and they are interchangeable with them.

Update (and apologies) after seeing Minor Matters May/June 2004

On page 9 at bottom right: MGM are making new radiators which fit the entire range (except the early sidevalve minors).

On page 26 is a view of a sidevalve minor with the bonnet up with a good view of the (different) radiator.

Yet another reason for joining the owners club!

John if your 63 is a 1098cc it is the later minor and the radiator is the same for the 948cc anyway.
