Dear All,
I washed my hair last night and my brain got wet. Can't do a thing with it this morning.
I studied the instructions Mike put up for but am flummoxed by the fact that, except for new wire [the red one as the original broke off but where from I'm not sure] I put in, all of them are the same colour. I am certain that the switch is an orginal bakerlite one. I have included photo which hopefully will give a lead in. I cannot locate terminal 1 therefore cannot locate the others either. I presume that one I have found term 1 I presume it will go clockwise from then on.
I cannot see connects 1 & 2 which yoi say should be connected by a wire. I cannot put my hand on my workshop manual at the moment, but in anycase it seems to be for Morris's after mine which is 1953. The really asnnoying thing is that the off-side one worked perfectly. I only unscrewed the swtich from its base unit to add a wire for nearside indicator. I know both indicators work, I tried them on the bench test. The red light on swtich fronmt, lights up but neither indicator will work. If I put the indicator into one slot the off-side indi comes on when I turn the ignition and before I've touch the switch.
I am really sorry to be such a muggins, but I just can't get it right. I will keep trying of course.

I'm not certain, but I'd expect 1 wire to be live (from the battery).
And the other 2 to be the feeds to the indicators/trafficators.
You need to determine which one is live with the ignition on.
A cheap test meter is ideal but a bulb in a holder with a couple of wires should suffice.

Workshop Manual page N28. Ref your photo.
Check your wiring by connecting your red wire to the wires to the trafficators, one at a time and identify which wire is which. If they both work then follow the instructions
Term 1 is the term with the contact to the base of the bulb.
Term 2 is the next clockwise which should be to the LH trafficator.
Next is term 3, the feed from the fuse box and 4 is spare.
Term 5 is the feed to the RH trafficator.
There is a brass connection between term 5 and the term next to term 1.
If you add a wire between term 1 and term 2 then the switch should work correctly.
Don't ask me why but I went through the same problems as you and that was the solution.

It is a puzzle isn't it. I was working on trial and error
but eventually felt I must have some hints. What a great things
are digital cameras. I could just snap and then post it, it is a G
Godsend.
