Wiring HArness Modifications

Post by jaguar68 »

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for advice on the wiring harness on my 1956 Series 2 Minor.
I'd like to be able to refit the original trafficators and to use flashing indicators.

I propose to use halogen headlights with integral pilot lights and use the original pilot lights as the front indicators whilst using earlyish VW beetle rear lights to provide the indicators at the rear.

Also, I'd like to upgrade to an alternator. Is it possible to modify the original wiring harness, bearing in mind it's now 53 years old, or would I be better off getting a custom harness made?

Regards

John

Go to the Series MM website, http://seriesmm.mmoc.org.uk. click on Technical Info and scroll down to Trafficator/Indicator wiring diagram.
If your wiring loom is 53 years old and all wires are black I would suggest that you fit a new custom loom to include all your requirements. Try Auto Sparks. 0115 949 1955

I found on my `54 when I went to re-wire it, found the loom was very very worn. Notably around the dip switch area. In the end I build a new loom from scratch.
In answer to your question, you can definitely modify the loom.
Bare in mind that a number of circuits on the original minor loom are unfused, so there's always a small risk of fire if they short. Just make sure the loom is in good condition.

Point to note; take care with the trafficators, people forget they are there and walk into them went getting out of the car  . This can easily be sorted with a couple of relays if need be . :D
