oil leak from pipe from oil filter housing to block (1098)

Hello

Found out where the oil is going (500ml every 200 miles)

I changed the oil yesterday with 20w/60 penrite oil

Ran the engine until hot and peered down to the filter (Spin on conversion)

Oil drips from the pipe that connects to the filter housing right where it connects to the housing.

What can be done to stop that leak i see no way of tightnening it as the pipe is already twisted.

if its a taper fit , so once tightened should be ok

Check that you have not cross threaded it and check the threads for damage. There is an adapter piece between the pipe and the filter housing. Check it. It is a standard 948/1098 pipe so it should be easy to get a replacement if necessary.
I have never had to touch mine as the filter conversion was done when I bought the engine.

Replace the pipe asap. Mine went a couple of weeks ago and I was lucky to spot it straight away as I lost all oil pressure. Oil fired up onto the bonnet and down onto the fan and then everywhere. It was a real mess to clean up. This was all from a small hole. When I tried to undo the fitting on the housing the pipe just twisted off so sounds like yours is in a similar condition.

These pipes can be quite fragile if disturbed - later Mini ones are different (even weaker) so be sure to get the right one.

Thanks for your tips i will get it sorted.

So the oil leak was because of the pipe from the block to the filter.

The Growling was from the timing being too far advanced in my case.

Folks check your timing before comdeming the engine for bearings.

To undo the pipe at the filter end, make sure that you use a spanner to stop the adaptor that is screwed into the filter housing from turning - this is what can twist the pipe if it is allowed to turn.

Spares come from Minis, if you can find one in a scrapyard?

The filter housing itself can crack on the top, which can look like the pipe is leaking, when it's not. Would be worth making sure that everything is clean and dry and then start the engine to see exactly where the leak is from?
