Hello

Have you checked the live feed from the voltage stabiliser that is attached to the back of the speedometer.

Also i know it sounds simple but what condition is the wire from the temperature probe in the cylinder head.

You don't say whether it is a capillary or electric gauge.
If it is a capillery gauge is the pipe damaged?
If it is an electric gauge have you run the gauge wiring through the voltage stabaliser and is the wiring on to the correct terminals?
I still haven't sorted my gauge out, I think that the v/s is u/s.
I am getting 0 with the v/s connected and 150 with it disconnected. Are you getting the same problem?
You might find some useful suggestions on "elec. temp. gauge", last entry May 13

Thanks for pointing me in the rite direction. Getting 11.1v at the gauge and 7.15v at the sender unit. Resistance on the sender does not change with temperature which I assume it should - new sender methinks?

I would say so! You could try cleaning the sender - if it gets covered in conductive fine iron particles (rust!) - then it can short circuit.
